Name: Mark Tilston
Team: Canadian Alpine Ski Team
Role: Men’s Head Coach

1. How long have you been a coach?
25 years

2. Why did you decide to get into coaching?
My decision to become a coach actually came after I started coaching. I was coaching while at university and didn’t plan to make a career out of coaching. However, while coaching I was able to really apply what I was learning at university and through this I realized how important it was to have the right program in place, how much opportunity there was to look for incremental improvement and ultimately I became very passionate about it.

3. What is the best thing about your job?
It’s hard to narrow down the best thing about my job. It’s seeing the development of people either as athletes, or as coaches or from athlete to coach or into another walk of life. Ultimately what I really like about coaching is that the skillset and process apply to everything in life. Defining goals, creating a plan to work towards them and keep moving towards the vision.

4. What is the best moment of your coaching career?
I can’t define one best moment of my coaching career. For me it is about the journey and so it’s a collection of many shared moments that create the journey. It would be easy to highlight results, but they are all the outcomes of the journey and the ‘failed’ performances are as satisfying as they are equally part of that journey and the times where we learn the most. Generally, my greatest satisfactions come from seeing athletes start to relish the process and when the team works collectively and focusses on the details in the knowledge that the results will come.

5. What’s the toughest part about your job?
Definitely the time spent away from family, friends and home.

6. What are you most looking forward to about this season?
The excitement of ski racing with all of its highs and lows.

"The issue is not that there are not enough opportunities for athletes to receive comprehensive and professional training and coaching; the issue is there are too many."

Ski Racing Media

Two strangers running next to each other at a similar speed will often find themselves increasing their pace to overtake the other. Each one raises their effort pushing out of their comfort zone. The pace escalates until one approaches or reaches their limit and cracks. Both the runner overtaken and the one who passed the other will soon return to the effort they were comfortable with.

Competition that is closely matched creates the greatest intensity. If passed by a runner much faster, there may be a momentary increase of effort but the futility of keeping up rapidly becomes evident. When easily faster than others, the ultimate effort is difficult to extract and sustain. The best is brought out when athletes are shoulder to shoulder and the hope is present that additional effort will bring success.

Coaches, athletes and parents often make the mistake of assuming that competing regularly at the highest level possible is the best for athlete development and improvement in rankings. The truth is that competing at the level where success is realistically attainable provides the motivation to increase skills, push limits and strive to improve. Point-scoring opportunities are the greatest in a race environment where the skier is closely matched in skill as compared to the race with the lowest penalty.

Athlete development is not as much about identifying talent for special coaching and teams as it is about having a system where all participants are able to participate in appropriate competition for their current skill level and have the opportunity to advance to increasingly challenging competition. As they outgrow their current environment, there are steps that will lead the best to the top of the world.

At the elite level, a nation needs to have 2-4 podium contenders in every World Cup to be the best team in the world. This equates to 8-12 men and 8-12 women, between the ages of 18 and 35+ ranked among the top 15 in the world in their podium events. Whether measured in medal counts at World Championships and Olympics or titles and Nation’s Cup, the best team in the world will be deep with podium skiers.

Development of international podium skiers doesn’t begin at the U.S. Ski Team or World Cup. As a nation, we need to participate and be competitive in benchmarking events such as International FIS Children’s Competitions, World Junior Championships and Continental Cups. The direct correlation between individual participation or even performance in these events at the earlier ages and World Cup and Olympic performance is weak. However, it is imperative that we establish that our standard in the United States is competitive internationally. By being engaged and competitive internationally at critical stages of development, the nation’s top athletes are challenged to be the best in the world. Returning home to compete locally, divisionally and regionally this level is seeded into the system setting the bar for everyone.

It is not necessary for the athlete to participate in these highly selective events to benefit competitively from them. In fact, competing at a level too much of a reach for current skill levels can be discouraging and detrimental to development. Selection or not is an unreliable indicator of future success.

The sport system we have evolved over time has many areas with advancement standards and a clear path There are, however, major overlapping spheres of focus creating expensive redundancies in the sport pipeline.

The National Governing Body (NGB) has the broadest mandate both working to incubate the sport at the entry level and ultimately field competitive national teams at the Olympics, World Championships, World Junior Championships and other competitions for the nation’s most highly competitive athletes. Expecting U.S. Ski and Snowboard (USSS) to effectively support, manage or fund the entire sport pipeline is unrealistic. Resources, while great, are not enough to do everything we would like. It is up to all of us in the community to focus our efforts on the portion of the pipeline we can most effectively and efficiently operate in and support.

Local clubs are best positioned to be hands on at the entry level, collaborating with their host resorts to build interest, introduce kids to the sport, and offer programs for kids to nurture their passion and improve their skills. NGB support can take the form of providing guidance through philosophy, education, policy, rules and selections.

At the other end of the range, USSS is uniquely responsible for fielding internationally competitive national teams. From the first developmental events where national teams are fielded through the highest levels of the sport, it is solely for the NGB to select, train and fund the athletes who represent the United States on the international stage. Selections must be disciplined to identify the athletes with demonstrated performance or potential to be competitive at the event selected for. Training for the youngest should include pre-event or limited off-season camps while full-time teams train those athletes with demonstrated World Cup podium potential. With finite resources, the difficult choice is between full funding for a very select group of athletes or incomplete funding for some to involve larger groups of athletes. At the highest international levels the focus must be on performance, not participation.

The area between the local clubs and the NGB is a mixed bag of overlapping responsibilities creating tension and competition between entities and wasteful allocation of resources. The NGB, Regions and Divisions, universities, PG and private teams, large clubs or academies and grassroots clubs are all elbowing each other in the same space at the older junior ages (15-20).

As a result, the level of commitment demanded professionalizes the sport for too many, rapidly escalates costs and leads to attrition. The issue is not that there are not enough opportunities for athletes to receive comprehensive and professional training and coaching; the issue is there are too many.

The overwhelming majority of athletes are appropriately challenged by their ability or age peer group in races that are accessed locally. It is not until the athlete reaches the top 2-3% of their respective competition when advancement to a more competitive peer group is critical to support continued development. The correct competitive level for the majority of the season is one in which competitor skills are relatively matched and goals to move up, ski into the flip and eventually on to the podium are realistic.

Occasional stretch competitions to experience the competition at the next level are an important part of the developmental process. However, most athlete management mistakes are made when athletes spend too much time competing at stretch competitions and experience repeated failures.

Not enough value is given to competing in events where winning is the goal. The mantra of “winning at every level” implies that athletes learn to win or experience significant success when advancing from level to level. The ideal is to have a system where athletes can access multiple levels of competition to experience being stretched, competing as part of a matched peer group, and in an environment where top 10s and podiums are expected.

Several years ago, in a conversation with former national team skier and broadcast analyst Steve Porino, he coined the phrase “financial doping” when discussing the outsized impact that resource allocation can have in determining athletic outcomes. As dangerous as doping with performance enhancing drugs, the uneven application of resources can elevate an athlete beyond a higher potential competitor.

The ideal athlete development system will be a meritocracy where advancement is determined by performance resulting from commitment, effort and talent and not limited by means. This sport system will provide accessibility at all levels, exciting competition leading to retention and produce national teams that are the best in the world.

ATTENTION PLEASE
Let’s speak about fluorine and related rules clearly:
There are 2 rules that you need to know:
First one is from EU: All Fluorinated products are banned if the percentage of PFOA (and its salts on mixtures) is more than 25 parts per billion (in all applications not just winter sports).
This rule dates back to 2017 and is in force from July 2020 in all EU countries
Second one is from FIS: Fluorinated products, even if they are PFOA Free, are banned in all FIS competitions. The decision was taken on November 2019 and will be applied to all FIS disciplines from the 2020/2021 season.
Only Hydrocarbon paraffin........🤭😱
These are two simple rules that are making a lot of confusion in winter sports world.

But ..............
In ski competitions out of FIS calendars:
- All skiers can use fluorinated products (this means the new PFOA free products but also the “old” ones if they are in a personal stock)
- EU laws prohibit placing on the market (free of charge or selling) of “old” fluorinated products. Only “new” fluorinated product with PFOA under 25 parts per billion can be produced and sell.
So, everything is clear and simple.
For amateurs and athletes who will not participate in the FIS competitions everything will remain as before: they can use fluorinated products 😉

With travel between the U.S. and Canada highly restricted, including a mandatory 14-day quarantine for travelers entering Canada, the 2020-21 NorAm Cup is facing significant obstacles.

Ski Racing Media

U.S. Ski & Snowboard officials and the NorAm committee, which is made up of representatives from both the U.S. and Canada, missed a targeted announcement this week to confirm the NorAm schedule for the upcoming season. Among the challenges are current border restrictions between the U.S. and Canada amid the coronavirus pandemic.

NorAms, North America’s annual Continental Cup, are always contested between the two countries with athletes on both sides of the border often making several trips back and forth throughout the season.

Discussions between the two nations, and likely FIS, remain ongoing, but early season races that had been tentatively scheduled for November in Colorado and December in Lake Louise have been scrapped, along with the prospect of January races in Stowe and Whiteface. In February, a stop in Sugarloaf has also been removed from consideration.

Best case scenario, NorAms are hoping to move forward with a February-to-April season. Tentatively, stops are anticipated in Collingwood (women), Mont Edouard (men), Panorama (both), with a final series to close out the season in Mammoth.

According to sources, there are a variety of concerns and scheduling challenges but none more pressing than the current travel restrictions between the two countries.

According to the government of Canada, foreign nationals traveling into the country must be traveling for an essential (non-discretionary) purpose. “Essential refers to travel for reasons that are non-discretionary and non-optional. The emergency orders under the Quarantine Act do not allow people to travel to Canada for optional or discretionary reasons, such as for tourism, recreation or entertainment.”

Additionally, a 14-day quarantine requirement is also in effect for all travelers into Canada, including Canadian nationals. The concern among Canadians is returning home after travel to the U.S. will immediately require a two-week stoppage of training and racing. These restrictions are proving untenable for many parties, particularly in the early part of the season when training is considered a premium block.

“When you arrive in Canada by air, land or sea, we’ll assess your health before you leave the POE. If you’re a foreign national, and you have symptoms of COVID-19, you won’t be allowed to enter Canada. … You must have a plan to quarantine for 14 days when you arrive in Canada,” the government states.

Among the requirements, travelers will need to provide proof of a place to stay, how they’ll get to their destination, get groceries, access essential services and medical care — all while under quarantine.

“We can’t hold off the system for a year,” said Alberta Alpine program director and provincial team head coach Gavin Preziosi in a recent interview with SRM. “If we can’t find the opportunities and points we’re after, then we may have to go to Europe [to find races]. Then the club athletes won’t have the profiles to make the Alberta team without being exposed to our team … and if we can’t find the appropriate races we won’t be able to move athletes up to the national team.”

On Wednesday, the FIS Alpine World Cup preparation meeting in advance of the Technical Committees at the end of the month took place as a hybrid meeting both at the FIS headquarters in Oberhofen and with virtual participation. The meeting was chaired by chairman of the Alpine Committee Bernhard Russi, in addition to the FIS led by the Competition Management, Peter Gerdol and Markus Waldner, the ski industry SRS with Rudi Huber and the World Cup Organizers through Srecko Medven (SLO), President of Club 5.

The final calendars have been adapted to the current situation and measures. They include adaptations based on the requirements to reduce numbers and the costs for teams, organisers and stakeholders. Changes to the calendar include separating a number of events to have only womens’ or mens’ races as well as dividing speed and technical events to limit the number of participants in total. The measures taken all focus on protecting the health and welfare of the participants to the best extent possible.

One of the first events adapted in the calendar is Levi, Finland. This season the women’s tour will head to the Finnish venue for two slalom races on Nov. 21-22 with the men’s slalom rescheduled later in the season.

Additionally Alta Badia’s (ITA) parallel race for the men has been replaced by a slalom. Adelboden (SUI) will host three races with an additional giant slalom on Friday, January 8.

The women will be racing in St Moritz (SUI) with two super G races on Dec. 5-6, one week earlier than previously scheduled, followed by Courchevel (FRA) hosting a two-race technical weekend.

The calendar includes one parallel event per gender in Lech-Zurs (AUT) at the new FIS World Cup parallel opening. FIS, Swiss-Ski and the Davos Organizing Committee has decided to postpone the debut of the parallel on Jan. 1, 2021 to the following year. Since the competition will take place near the centre of Davos during the peak tourist season, it would have been challenging to conform to the COVID-19 specifications.

Overall, the men’s calendar will feature 39 races, while the women will compete in 35 races. The Audi FIS Alpine World Cup men’s and women’s calendars for 2020-21 will be approved the FIS Council on Oct. 3 following the FIS Technical Meetings taking place from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.

Lech/Zursの並列判決しかない。

Mental Preparation is a Key Piece of the Ski Racing Development Puzzle

I would first like to express my appreciation to Dan Leever and Ski Racing Media for initiating this essential conversation about how the U.S. Ski Team can live up to its vision: “Best in the World.” I would also like to thank Dan and SRM for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this exchange of ideas in the area of my passion and expertise, namely, the psychological aspects of world-class ski racing performance.

I’ve been involved in our sport for more than 50 years (yikes!), first as an internationally ranked competitor and, for the last 35-plus years, specializing in the psychology of ski racing. During that time, I have seen the U.S. Ski Team rise to remarkable heights and fall the great depths. And throughout its history, the USST has sought to identify all of the pieces of the ski-racing success puzzle that would lead our country to the top of the alpine ranks alongside, at various times, Austria, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, and Sweden. I truly believe that the collective passion, knowledge, and experience of the many stakeholders in our sport and an open and honest dialogue such as Dan has begun here can help us find those crucial pieces of the puzzle that will take us to the top of the mountain, metaphorically speaking, and down to the bottom faster than any country in the world.

With all that said, over the next month or so, I will be sharing a series of articles that explore why and how the psychology of ski racing performance should be a part of this important conversation. Just as U.S. ski racing is looking for the “secret sauce” for on-snow volume and intensity, technical and tactical development, physical conditioning, nutrition, and other contributors to our sport, I believe that mental training is another fundamental area that must be addressed in a systematic way to fully develop a large number of athletes who are prepared for consistent success on the world stage.

Consider the vital importance of the mind in ski racing. Motivation, confidence, intensity, focus, emotions, resilience, adaptability, patience, perseverance, coachability, attitude, collaboration, the list goes on. Yes, these mental “muscles” can develop on their own with individual athletes. At the same time, like any muscle, mental muscles will get their strongest fastest if trained in a systematic and consistent way from an early age. There are several benefits to pursuing this course of action. Such an approach would increase the chances of otherwise talented ski racers who lacked the inherent or self-developed mental strength to realize their fullest abilities. A programmatic approach to mental training would also impact the team culture, creating a team that is collectively imbued with these same mental capabilities. Along with this shared mental strength, whether an academy, club, or the USST, as the saying goes, a rising tide lifts all boats.

Importance of Mental Training in Ski Racing

Over my years of professional involvement in ski racing, I’ve asked 1000s of racers, coaches, and officials this key question: How important is the mental side of ski racing compared to conditioning and technique? The results of this informal survey indicate that 99% of respondents believe that the mind is as or more important.

Consider the top-10 racers, male or female, on the World Cup. Are they all gifted? Yes. Are they all in exceptional physical condition? Yes. Are they all technically sound? Yes. Do they all have the best equipment? Yes. So, on race day, what separates Henrik and Alexis or Mikaela and Petra from the rest of the field? All of these other factors being equal, it must be what goes on in their minds. Yet, when I ask these same racers and coaches how much time and energy is devoted to mental preparation, they indicate not very much and certainly not as much as it deserves.

One thing we can all agree on is that the mind is an essential piece of the ski-racing performance puzzle that is largely neglected at both the individual and organizational levels. And therein lies a powerful opportunity for U.S. ski racing.

Current Commitment to Mental Training in U.S. Ski Racing

Across the different levels of development in U.S. ski racing, conditioning and on-snow training consumes a disproportionately greater amount of time, resources, and staffing than does mental training. The typical commitment of time devoted to the former is three-to-six hours a day. The typical commitment of time to mental training is close to zero. A few years back, I learned that the budget for mental training of one national team was about six percent of the conditioning budget. While the USST and every ski academy and club have full-time technical and conditioning coaches, none have full-time mental coaches. Moreover, when mental training is offered, its presence is vastly different from the physical conditioning and technical regimens that racers benefit from (more on that in a later article). In all cases, I’m not arguing that mental training should be on equal footing as conditioning and on-snow training. At the same time, given the professed importance of mental training in the U.S. ski racing community, some movement toward parity would seem reasonable.

Based on feedback I have received in recent years from the many USST athletes I’ve worked with, consultants have sporadic contact with the athletes and it is focused primarily on individual athletes. Moreover, there is no mental training performance model, no programmatic progression or consistency, little incorporation of mental training into physical conditioning or on-snow training, and limited integration of mental training into the overall athlete development program (I’m open to being corrected if this information is inaccurate).

Current State of Mental Training in Other Ski Teams and Sports

My above observations aren’t intended as criticisms of the USST. The reality is that no national team has figured out how to systematically and effectively incorporate mental training into their country’s long-term athletic development program. I have had discussions with performance directors and coaches from most of the leading alpine countries and the message has been the same: They haven’t been able to fit mental training into their development systems, so the European teams generally leave athletes to their own devices when it comes to mental training.

This hands-off approach is, however, at odds with the best practices found in other sports. For example, more than 75% of NCAA Division I athletic departments have full-time sport psychologists (who address both performance and mental health issues). Almost every NFL, MLB, and NBA team has a full-time mental coach. And, not surprisingly, Red Bull has a full-time staff of sport psychologists doing what Red Bull does in everything it invests in, namely, push the envelope of conventional wisdom and practices in athletic development.

I would suggest that the situation that I’ve just described offers U.S. ski racing an incredible opportunity to lead and innovate in an area that other nations haven’t and to provide that piece of the puzzle that everyone in our sport says is so important, yet has not been fully leveraged. My ultimate goal is to help U.S. ski racing to fulfill its vision by encouraging the development of a world-leading mental training program which is fully integrated into its overall athlete development system from junior programs up to the top of the USST and that develops athletes who are comprehensively prepared for success at the highest levels of ski racing.

I have had discussions with performance directors and coaches from most of the leading alpine countries and the message has been the same: They haven’t been able to to fit mental training into their development systems, so the European teams generally leave athletes to their own devices when it comes to mental training.

I don’t want to frame this discussion as “tech versus speed.” Presenting it as an opposing choice sets the discussion up to be more contentious and overly simplistic. It’s really a question of how to best facilitate alpine development, especially at the younger ages.

You need to do it all, and you need to do it well. General skill development at a young age is critical, and this whole topic needs to be broader: How do we fit all the pieces together?

It’s a fallacy to say that I’m anti-speed. When I coached men, 12 athletes made the U.S Ski Team; 10 of those went on to race World Cup downhill, including Doug Lewis, Jeff Olson and AJ Kitt. When I moved to coaching women, three of the first four were also World Cup speed skiers, including Shannon Nobis and Katie Monahan, who both achieved top-three World Cup placings.

The sport of alpine ski racing has evolved, and when that happens, there are three tendencies: One is to be stuck in the history of what happened in the past — and obviously knowledge of history is important, but it’s critical to avoid being entrenched in an outdated system. A more progressive approach is looking at what top programs and athletes around the world are doing and trying to replicate those strategies. You can build a good system that way, but you’ll never be great. Instead, we should aspire to develop a solid understanding of what has proven successful in the past alongside current best practices while looking forward to anticipate new trends. What are the externals and what’s coming next? This represents visionary planning and leadership.

Downhill really changed in the ‘90s. If you read the recent article written by Tom Kelly about AJ Kitt, he talks about the two Val d’Isere courses, one being more of a glider‘s course and the Bernard Russi-designed course for the 1992 Olympics being more technical. Over time, change in skiing has largely come through two factors: one is equipment and the other is the maturation of the sport. The evolution of equipment has led to higher speeds. As a result, in downhill and super G, they had to create more technical courses and set to control the speed.

In the 1990s, Werner Margreiter took over the Austrian ski team at a time when they hadn’t won a World Cup men’s overall title since Karl Schranz in 1968. At the time, to receive a World Cup start on the Austrian team, you had to specialize in one event, but their goal and their strategy shifted. They sought to have an overall winner within five years. They did it in four, and they actually started dominating the top five. They did so by establishing a slalom-GS team, a GS-SG team, and a SG-downhill team to ensure multiple discipline-start opportunities necessary to win the overall. After the first year, Werner said the SG-downhill group’s time had passed due to the evolution in men’s downhill. In speed, it was ultimately the GS-SG group that shined with the new trend in speed: dominance by great giant slalom and super G skiers. For the U.S., Daron Rahlves is a great example from this period into the 2000s — being world class in giant slalom, super G and downhill.

That’s the context that you have to look at our current landscape: Things have evolved, and they’ll continue to do so. And now we’ve gotten to the point where many of the recent top speed skiers first emerged in slalom.

If you look at the Leever Study, it shows that athletes tend to emerge earlier at the World Cup level in slalom compared to giant slalom — the speed disciplines come later. For women (who mature earlier than men), they’ve pretty much emerged by second-year FIS; they’re ranked top 200 in the world, or starting to score World Cup points.

To do that, you need a lot of time on snow at younger ages, developing a high level of general skill and high volume of slalom training. (Use 15,000-20,000 slalom gates trained annually as a benchmark). You see many top young slalom skiers develop their giant slalom somewhat later. Most of what we do — slalom, GS, SG and free skiing — benefits giant slalom. But slalom, on the other hand, is a very specific discipline requiring specific training and volume. Another positive point is, every ski program in the country can provide quality slalom training and most can provide speed-skill elements. (It’s important to distinguish between days on snow and aggregate time on snow, but we may talk about that in a later piece.)

Other important takeaways from the Leever Study on this matter include:

Most top American speed skiers in the past 20 years were great tech skiers as juniors (Miller, Rahlves, Nyman, Weibrecht, Ganong, Vonn, Mancuso, Shiffrin)

This is also true for the majority of top speed skiers from other countries

Today, 75% of World Cup top-30 downhill and SG men were sub-30-point tech skiers as juniors. It’s sub-20 points for women

So, what do you need to become a top speed skier these days? It’s more about speed skill development and training than speed racing. Most people don’t look closely enough at how super G skill development transfers to downhill. At the elite level, there might only be a three-second difference between a downhill and super G on the same hill. When you’re young, you need to develop speed skills.

As Dan Leever has stated, “Many roads lead to Rome.” There is a wide range of how the top skiers develop skill. An athlete from Squaw will tend to free ski a huge amount in varied terrain; a Buck Hill skier will tend to ski tons of slalom gates, and an eastern skier will have a mix, which is more oriented toward gates. The one thing they have in common: The great skiers all tend to ski more.

It’s not about tech versus speed; it’s about how all of it works together. I believe if you develop with the necessary training to become a great tech skier and have the speed-skill development, then you can emerge in super G and downhill later. If you look at Mikaela (and I know many people are hesitant to use her as an example, but bear with me), she did a good amount of speed training when she was 12 to 14, but she never raced more than two super Gs in a year when she was young. Now she’s winning downhills. She spent a significant amount of time doing general skill development (often 16-24 days prior to gate training), trained copious amounts of high-quality slalom and giant slalom, AND had enough quality speed training, including forerunning NorAm super G races as a J3. To allow for enough general skill and gate volume she raced very little. At 14, despite competing in both Topolino and Whistler Cup, she only had 11 races with one super G at Whistler.

Another important point is the goal of avoiding injuries among younger skiers. I looked back at some of the history we’ve had with strong groups coming out of Vail. One of the limiting factors was injury, so now we’re trying to prevent injury through periodization and higher levels of technical development. It’s pretty simple: The faster you go, the higher the force resisted. Add jumps into the mix, and you’re exposing your body to a lot more force and, therefore, the threat of injury. Developing superior tactical and technical skill is another important factor in reducing injuries. The top young skiers I worked with who had later success, especially in speed events, tended to have very high finish rates in training.

Finally, it’s important to include consideration of college skiing. We had a long period in the U.S. when our national philosophy was four-event development, but many of our national team athletes weren’t strong enough in tech events to race for the top teams at the NCAA level after they left the ski team. And let’s be clear, college is a viable route, so it’s important to make sure our athletes are able to pursue the NCAA pathway. The majority of U.S. ski racing families tend to place a high emphasis on higher education.

I hear all the time that we’ve “always done it this way” or “this is how other great nations are doing it.” And I say, “Well, maybe we need to rethink that.” I guarantee Bill Belichick isn’t looking around the league to mimic what other teams are doing. He’s trying to innovate, not replicate. The U.S. system needs to figure out what’s coming next. And when we figure out where we need to go, then we need to get there as quickly as we can.

Starten in Levi nur die Slalom Damen in die Ski Weltcup Saison 2020/21? ++++

Charly Seidl

Corona-Pandemie: Mikaela Shiffrin und die ganz andere Ski Weltcup Saison 2020/21 +++++

Charly Seidl

Ich bin mir sicher, wir werden uns bald wiedersehen, Eure Vicky Hello dear friends & fans, Today is certainly not an easy day for me, as I have decided to end my career with immediate effect after 13 years. I made this decision with a heavy heart & after much consideration over the last few weeks. After my injury in spring & the past two months of snow training, I realised that I would no longer be able to reach my absolute top level. From a very young age, it has always been my ambition & incentive to compete for success & to inspire you on the slopes. But now that I have the feeling that I can no longer live up to this, this is a very difficult but inevitable decision for me. With the memory of my last race weekend in Garmisch and the victory in the downhill, it is a nice time to leave the winter sports stage. I would like to thank my family, friends & fans as well as the @dsv_alpin with all its coaches, supporters & partners for the wonderful time and the support. Vicky

While the FIS Alpine World Cup tour recently announced it will not come to North America this season due to the COVID-19...

Ski Racing Media
