リゲティは今季の開幕戦から左脚に激しい痛み（神経痛）に悩まされていた。いくつかの治療法を試すも効果なく、手術に踏み切ることとなった。手術は今後の今季Ｗ杯、世界選手権の欠場を意味する。
リゲティは、完全な状態に戻し、3度目のオリンピック金メダリストを照準に平壌オリンピックに向けて準備を始めた。

Ligety to Have Back Surgery

Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) announced today that he will have surgery on his back, which will cause him to miss the rest of the 2016-17 season. The two-time Olympic gold medalist will focus on the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, intending to come back strong as a medal contender.
